GW2 Challenge - Day Twenty-Five: Who Do I Play With?
I mostly play with my guild, The Jesters! Pictured above are a few amazing people from my guild. From left to right it’s Fauntz (PeskyNymph’s husband), Rhys (me), Tawnia, Dominik (Djinnborn), Asher (PeskyNymph) and Artemis!
But there are MANY more than this in my guild. And we also have (unofficial thanks to no system in-game for it) allies! I often play with people from allied guilds as well, and they’re pretty fun to interact with too.
But I don’t RP and play exclusively with my guild and its allies. If you see any of my characters out and about, feel free to stop me for a chat!
GW2 Challenge - Day Twenty-Four: Favorite Glitch Screenshot
This underwater glitch only happened on my laptop during the BWEs. It was super annoying though. I had Selda dive into the water once and she came back up and everything was water. Until the BWEs ended of course.
I try to play a little every night, mostly just for the social aspect and talking with the guild. Sometimes I just log in to chat and don’t play at all. With that being said, I think the longest I’ve gone without playing is like, a week.
I don’t have many special minis, but there is ONE that I should talk about that is pretty important.
(This is all in-character)
After catching several criminals in Metrica Province, the guild convened for the give-away of prizes. Selda’s name was drawn for a special prize. A baby green moa toddled out from behind Nik and waddled over to Selda. The guild pressured her into naming him right then and there, and somehow Chompy was the chosen name.
Chompy is portrayed in-game by a mini green moa. He follows Selda around and pecks at her boot, clonks his head against hers and squawks wildly, because he’s a bit of an attention hog and doesn’t like Selda yet.
And the best part?
…Selda’s freaking terrified of moas.
RANGER RANGER RANGER RANGER RANGER RANGER RANGER
MESMER, MESMER!
RANGER RANGER RANGER RANGER RANGER RANGER RANGER
MESMER, MESMER!
A BIG OL’ GUARDIAN - GUARDIAN A GUARDIAN OH IT’S A GUARDIAN!
…But yeah, Ranger’s my all time favorite. Mesmer comes in second. Then Guardian.
Selda Oakenforge came about for a few reasons.
My GW1 main, Alistine Wolfswift, married Drake Oakenforge shortly after the events of Eye of the North, which they were not a part of, though Alis did help the Vanguard and saved Drake from being killed by charr. So the main descendant in GW2 needed to be an Oakenforge. So I had a last name. I needed something to go with it.
I don’t quite remember my thought processes that led to Selda. I wanted something antiquated for her name… something super embarrassing that she’d need a nickname for. It also needed to fit into the 19 character limit and Oakenforge is a long last name. :P I was toying with Zelda, but that’s… like… sacrilege. Like… that’s… you don’t do that. xD I did end up sticking with Griselda as her name, and just used Selda as her preferred name/nickname. It does sound a lot more normal/cooler. She was almost Griselda Oakenforge in-game, but I didn’t want people inadvertently calling her Griselda.
Hardly anyone knows her full first name. Just Kadence, Ocas and Zigo, I think. Maybe Donari… maybe she told him the night she got super drunk and he was forced to take care of her. xD Everyone else knows her as Selda, and she’s got a TON of nicknames for that nickname including Seldy (that’s the favorite), Selds, Sel, and Selly.
And Kadence gave her a middle name, since she didn’t have one/wasn’t born with one/too poor to have one.
This is gonna be long…
- RANGERS! OMFG I love my ranger. She can solo anything, does well in dungeons and fractals and does decently in WvW. She survives anyway!
- Pretty much uninstanced! I love that I can just roam around the map and run into interesting characters and guildies in need of help (or annoyance!)
- All the freedom. I can climb to the top of Mt. Maelstrom. I can run all the way across a map, jumping over crap and swimming. It’s amazing!
- The ease of the messaging and chat system.
- All the fun spaces for RP.
- The amazing community! For the most part, everyone is super nice, friendly and helpful!
- The throwbacks to GW1!
I’m sure there’s many more but the whole game is like… the best. I love it.
This is all my opinion! I don’t mean to offend, but these are the things I think are the ‘worst’ about GW2. I love the game, so these are all minor little nitpicks. xD
- No sittable chairs. Or very few. It’d be nice to sit down in a chair without my character breaking her legs. xD
- Very few formal clothes for medium armor (and probably heavy armor) females. I think more clothes and armor skins in general would be a great idea, and ANet is already delivering on that very well! I love the new shirts!
- Noble Houses. I think next time I play, I’m gonna try my drinking game out. Every time I see a House X guild tag, I’m taking a shot. :P But I do enjoy that the upper class actually looks down upon commoners such as my character. It’s fantastic! But yeah, I still say Tyria does not equal Westeros. It’s not problematic, it’s just… well, it’s everywhere. And it all seems the same.
- That when you block someone, you can still see their emotes. This is a big thing that really should be fixed.
- That most of the RP is concentrated in Divinity’s Reach. I’m very fortunate to be in a guild that likes RPing everywhere and uses Lion’s Arch and Applenook Hamlet as the city/village of choice for tavern RP.
- Area claiming. Very much dislike this. I’ve been in RP before where space was shared for two separate plots and it was fine, but I’ve also been threatened with IC Permadeath (LOLWUT?) for not vacating a premises that supposedly belongs to someone else. Sharing is caring! :D We can all get along, I promise!
AND THE BIGGEST NITPICK…
- Skuub, my ranger’s drakehound, cannot swim. But Slyleif, Kadence’s ranger’s big cat, can. I do not understand why. Dogs are great swimmers and love the water. Some big cats do too, but for the most part cats + water = OMGFLIPPIN’OUTWTF. Selda’s really only supposed to have Skuub as a pet, so I’m forced to handwave him following her into the water and swimming around. But I do enjoy when other RPers point out the random polar bear that follows her, and Selda commenting that she has no idea why it’s there.
